River beat Independiente in Argentine soccer

BUENOS AIRES - River Plate defeated Independiente 2-0 in the Argentine soccer championship Sunday.

Diego Barrado and Radamel Falcao scored in the first half and the latter missed a penalty for River.

River now have 23 points and is eight behind leaders Lanus with 12 rounds to go while Independiente have 17.
