Kenya’s Chelimo wins men’s race, Brazil’s Moreira takes women’s division at Sao Paulo marathon

Chelimo, Moreira, win Sao Paulo marathon
SAO PAULO — Elias Kemboi Chelimo of Kenya won the men’s race and Marizete Moreira of Brazil won the women’s division at the Sao Paulo marathon on Sunday.
Chelimo finished in 2 hours, 13 minutes, 59 seconds in windy conditions. Brazil’s Franck Caldeira, the 2004 winner, was second in 2:17:23, ahead of countryman Jose do Nascimento Souza in 2:19:17.
Chelimo won the 2007 Rome marathon and finished 11th in the New York City marathon that year.
Moreira gave Brazil its 11th win in the women’s race. She finished in 2:41:45, more than 3 minutes ahead of countrywoman Marizete Resende. Brazil’s Marily dos Santos was third in 2:45:48.
