Cardinals take out Lohse in 3rd inning
ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Kyle Lohse, who missed his last start after getting hit by a pitch in the right forearm, left Wednesday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds in the top of the third inning.
Lohse was taken out with a 3-1 count against Jerry Hairston Jr. with a runner on and none out after meeting briefly with trainer Barry Weinberg and manager Tony La Russa for a second time. Lohse tried unsuccessfully to wave off the first visit in the second inning.
The team said Lohse had tightness in his right forearm.
Lohse allowed four hits, including a second-inning home run to the Reds’ Laynce Nix, and threw 39 pitches.
