Jimmy Rollins back in leadoff spot for Phillies

NEW YORK — Jimmy Rollins is back in the leadoff spot for the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 2007 NL MVP was returned to his regular role Wednesday night by manager Charlie Manuel for the second game of a three-game series against the New York Mets.

After slumping for much of the season, Rollins was dropped to sixth in the batting order the previous two games. He totaled five hits in those contests, including a 3-for-4 performance Tuesday that included a home run and two RBIs.

Asked on Wednesday if Rollins was back in the leadoff spot for good, Manuel said: “Probably.”

Shane Victorino was dropped to second in the order, a more customary spot for him.

Rollins, a Gold Glove shortstop, was hitting .230 with four homers and 20 RBIs.
