No. 4 Dementieva tops Schiavone to reach Wimbledon semis for 2nd year in a row

Dementieva reaches Wimbledon semifinals

WIMBLEDON, England — Fourth-seeded Elena Dementieva of Russia has reached the Wimbledon semifinals after a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win over Francesca Schiavone of Italy.

Dementieva took a 5-0 lead in the first set and converted both of her break points in the second to seal the win in 66 minutes.

Dementieva also reached the Wimbledon semifinals last year and improved her record to 109-41 in Grand Slams. However, she is still looking for her first major title after being runner-up at both the French Open and U.S. Open in 2004.

She will next play either No. 2 Serena Williams or No. 8 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.
