Nationals place Kearns on 15-day DL with injured right thumb; Padilla promoted from Triple-A

Nationals’ Kearns on DL with right thumb injury
WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals have placed outfielder Austin Kearns on the 15-day disabled list and called up outfielder Jorge Padilla from Triple-A Syracuse.
Kearns is out with a right thumb injury. His move to the DL on Wednesday is retroactive to Aug. 4.
Kearns is batting only .195 with three home runs and 17 RBIs this season.
Padilla was hitting .367 at Syracuse. His first appearance with the Nationals will mark his major league debut.
