Knight to be inducted into Indiana Hall of Fame

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Former Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight will be inducted into the university’s athletics Hall of Fame.

The honor comes nearly a decade after he was fired for violating a zero-tolerance policy imposed by then-IU President Myles Brand.

Indiana announced Knight’s selection Saturday. The coach will be inducted at a dinner on Nov. 6.

Knight, who later coached at Texas Tech, is the winningest coach in men’s Division I basketball. He led Indiana to three national championships.

Knight’s firing in 2000 for a “pattern of unacceptable behavior” led to a rift in the program. His successor, Mike Davis, resigned, and the program was tainted by recruiting violations under Kelvin Sampson. Former Marquette coach Tom Crean was brought in to rebuild the program.
