Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 97 runs

COLOMBO - Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by 97 runs in the first one-day international of the Compaq Cup at the Premedasa Stadium here Tuesday.

Chasing a target of 217 runs, New Zealand were bowled out for 119 after Lasith Malinga picked up four for 28 while Sanath Jayasuriya and Nuwan Kulasekara bagged two wickets each.
