Pitt’s Dickerson, Florida’s Hernandez, BYU’s Pitta finalists for Mackey Award as top tight end

3 finalists chosen for Mackey Award for tight ends

NEW YORK — Dorin Dickerson of Pittsburgh, Florida’s Aaron Hernandez and Dennis Pitta of BYU are the finalists for the John Mackey Award presented to the nation’s top tight end.

The winner will be announced Dec. 10 at a college football awards show.

Dickerson has 43 catches for 496 yards and 10 touchdowns for No. 8 Pitt (9-1); Hernandez has 46 catches for 571 yards and two TDs for the top-ranked Gators (11-0); and Pitta has 54 catches for 735 yards and seven TDs for the 18th-ranked Cougars (9-2).

The finalists were determined by balloting of the John Mackey Selection Committee. The award is presented by the Nassau County Sports Commission.
