Top ranking professional golfer, Tiger Woods has decided to take “indefinite break” from professional golfing to focus his attention on family and self-improvement. Tiger Woods in recent weeks was dogged by scandals arising from his numerous extra-marital affairs, which started with physical injury and accident and sadly ended today with him quitting professional golfing.

In Tiger Woods own words from his site:

I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.

The retirement of Tiger Woods is a major loss for the golfing fraternity. Golfers of his talent a caliber are hard to come by. On the other hand is the burning question of whether his fans and followers will be able to forgive his for his debauchery. Can his wife forgive him? If she can then why not the others?
Man makes mistakes, however only few of men can accept their mistakes and take bold steps to rectify them while accepting great loss to his fame and career. Let’s step back from all the criticisms and let’s applaud him for his courage to move forward and make amends. May the force be with him.
