Togo appeals suspension from African Cup

LOME, Togo — A committee representing the Togo Football Federation has appealed the ban of its soccer team from the African Cup of Nations.

The appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport was made Friday by Togo’s Interim Caretaker Committee, a temporary body set up by world soccer governing body FIFA to run the Togo Football Federation.

Togo was suspended from the next two African Cup of Nations tournaments by the African Football Confederation after the country pulled out of last month’s event in Angola following a fatal attack on its team bus.

Two members of the Togo party and a driver were killed when the bus was fired upon in the northern Angolan region of Cabinda.
