SEATTLE (GaeaTimes.com)- Ken Griffy Junior announced his decision to retire from the Major League Baseball. He is 40 years of age, and with the decision to retire, he is bringing to an end a career that has spanned a time period of over twenty two years. He had been playing with the Seattle Mariners, the team he rejoined in 2009. In fact, his decision seems fueled by a promise that he made to the team when he rejoined, that he would never allow himself to become a distraction to the team. However, the decision does come as a major shock to the team.

The announcement of Ken Griffy Junior’s decision to retire was made just before the team was going or batting practice prior to the game against Minnesota. The decision was announced to the other members of the team by the manager of the team, Don Wakamatsu. Ken Griffy Junior announced his decision to the president of the Seattle Mariners. The team announced to the press that he would not be playing in the game that would be taking place in Safeco field. He was not to be seen in the clubroom even when the team went on to face Minnesota.

Ken Griffy Junior commented later on in a statement that he feels that his presence on the roster of the team, continuously, would be turning him into a constant source of distraction for the other team members, which is why he hit upon the idea of retiring from his career. The CEO of the Seattle Mariners went on to say that although the decision of Ken Griffy Junior to retire comes as a huge blow to the team, they would be respecting his decision.
