LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant led from the front to gave the Los Angeles Lakers their 16th NBA Championship on Thursday. The 42 mins and 12 seconds that Pau Gasol spent on court proved to be one of his best minutes in the NBA Finals so far. Finishing with 19 points and 18 rebounds he gave the Los Angeles Lakers the much needed boost in the last quarter.

Boston Celtics coach Phil Jackson admitted after the game that Pau Gasol was ‘one guy’ who played with ‘great energy’. With Kendrick Perkins going out in Game 6 due to a knee injury, the Celtics defense looked lack-luster as Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol made easy inroads for the basket. Though Phil Jackson predicted that the clash between Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett was one to look out for, it was Los Angeles Lakers player’s sheer determination that made the difference between the two sides. Pau Gasol started off badly in the fourth quarter after missing two free throws. He, however, made it up within two minutes to give the Los Angeles Lakers a small lead of 70-64 with less than 5 mins to go. He expanded gap relatively by scoring two more with 2.47 left.

Pau Gasol has been a key player for the Los Angeles Lakers throughout the NBA Finals. He gave a stellar performance in game 6 with 17 points and 13 rebounds to extend the series to game 7. His rebounds in game 7 turned out to be one of the differences between the two sides as Boston Celtics had a total of 40 rebounds in comparison to Los Angeles Lakers’ 58.
