Cardinals place OF Ryan Ludwick on 15-day DL

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals have placed outfielder Ryan Ludwick on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf and recalled outfielder Jon Jay from Triple-A Memphis.

Ludwick had a setback Friday on a treadmill during a workout, and had missed nine of the previous 10 games. The move was made Saturday before the Cardinals played Milwaukee and was backdated a week, so he’ll be eligible to play after the All-Star break.

Ludwick was batting .273 with 11 homers and 42 RBIs, third-best on the team.
