San Francisco (GaeaTimes.com) According to an official involved in the talks, the Yankees and the Mariners have made some progress towards Cliff Lee trade and the Yankees’ deep budget would give them a major advantage in signing him for them. The All Star left hander is eligible for free agency after this season but, as the situations turns out, Lee seems to be destined for Yankees much sooner, as NYTimes blogger Tyler Kepner thinks.

But until the deal is finalized, Lee may continue to pitch against the Yankees at Safeco Field on Friday Night. After C.C. Sabathia, Andy Pettitte and Phil Hughes, Lee will be the fourth All Star for the Yankees in their starting rotation. The trade may also open the way for Yankees to trade another starter, most probable Javier Vazquez.

Cliff Lee, the Major League Baseball Left handed Pitcher, won the American League Cy Young Award in 2008. His repertoire features a four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball, a cut fastball as well as a circle changeup and a curveball. He was drafted by the Florida Marlins with the 12th Pick of the 8th round in 1997, but chose to attend Meridian Community College in Mississippi. In 1998, Cliff Lee was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 20th round of the amateur draft. He did not sign and opted to attend the University of Arkansas. He joined Seattle Mariners on December 15, 2010 after a trade with the Philadelphia Philies. Cliff Lee beat the Yankees twice in the 2009 World Series, pitching for Philadelphia Philies.
