‘Rejuvenated’ Sergio Garcia in touch with Open leaders

LONDON - Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia has continued his post-heartbreak rehabilitation at St Andrews, and is now in touch with the leaders heading into Sunday’s final round at The Open.
Garcia had been considering quitting due to his career slump over the past 18 months, and a pair of 71s on the opening two days did not lift that gloom.
However, after a 70 on Saturday he is on four under for the tournament, and he admitted that chat with his family and friends had turned him around.
“I had a very important talk with people that I care about and who care about me on Friday night,” News Of The World quoted Garcia, as saying.
“I think that if you’re surrounded by good people, you usually become good people. I have that and I have it with the crowds, the people here, who support and really help me.”
“I thank them. It means so much to me. I hope that this is day one of a new attitude, a new Sergio, to try and enjoy playing golf again because I haven’t had that for a long time. I have been down for a long time,” he added.
The 30-year-old had finished 22nd at the US Open and 45th at the Masters, but another sub-par round today could see him take a top ten place for the seventh time in the last ten Open championships.
“There is still a lot of room for improvement and I am not saying that it is all done, but it is a big step forward,” Garcia said. (ANI)
