Lou Piniella Announces Retirement

CHICAGO (GaeaTimes.com)- On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs’ General manager Lou Piniella announced that he would retire from his position after the end of the present season. The 66-year-old Lou Piniella had a colorful career that includes 18 years as a player and 22 years as a manager. The manager of the team said on Tuesday that he is now looking forward to spending more time with his family. Lou Piniella who has spent many years with the Chicago Cubs did not rule out the possibility of remaining associated with the Chicago Cubs team or consulting another team. However, he emphasized that he would be retiring from the daily grinds that the job of the manager brings with it.

Lou Piniella while announcing his decision maintained that his association with the Chicago Cubs has been “a wonderful experience”. He also added that he would always cherish the memories of the days he had spent in Chicago Cubs. Lou Piniella said “There’s no way that I won’t cherish the memories here”. However the veteran manager added that it had been almost 50 years that he has been staying away from home, suggesting that it is time for him to enjoy the rest of his life with his family.

Although, the Chicago Cubs have not suggested any name as of yet for the post that would be vacated by Lou Piniella, the name of Ryne Sandberg has been suggested by the Chicago Cubs’ General Manager Jim Hendry. The Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg is a minor league manager in Des Moines at present and Jim Hendry said that the former will be one of the candidates for the post. However, it is not until the end of the season that the Chicago Cubs will be going for a replacement.
