LONDON - Former Test player Andrew Flintoff has backed pace bowler James Anderson to bowl England to Ashes glory this winter.

Fast bowler Anderson, 27, has developed into something of a Jekyll and Hyde character in the attack during his seven-and-a-half year international career.

On English grounds the Lancashire ace boasts 113 wickets from 29 Tests at under 30-runs apiece - as well as six of his eight five-wicket hauls.

But overseas his record is less impressive, with his 19 Tests reaping just 52 wickets at an average of 43.

Flintoff, however, told SunSport: “Jimmy came into the side at a young age and has improved as he’s gone along. People say he is not as good with the Kookaburra ball they use in Australia, but it’s a cricket ball isn’t it?

“He will swing it, nip it and get reverse too. His skills have improved in the last few years - and I think after we have played Pakistan and Australia he will have proved his is our best bowler,” Flintoff added.

Flintoff also called on England to up the fun factor this winter to avoid a repeat of their Ashes whitewash four years ago.

“I think you have to go over there and enjoy it - lap up the attention, the crowds, the stadiums and just play your natural game,” he said. (ANI)
