AP sources: Marlins, Rangers work on Cantu trade
SAN FRANCISCO — People familiar with the situation say the Florida Marlins are working to finalize a trade that would send third baseman Jorge Cantu to the Texas Rangers.
Cantu was pulled from Florida’s game at San Francisco on Thursday in the bottom of the eighth inning, though neither club made a formal announcement. The Marlins reportedly are to receive prospects in the swap.
Cantu was prepared to be traded and said in recent days he is prepared to switch from third base back to his former spot at first, a position of need for the AL West-leading Rangers.
Texas acquired pitcher Cliff Lee from the Seattle Mariners earlier this month.
