The 11 institutions under Big Ten are all located at the Mid Western United States. The Football teams from Bowl Subdivision (FBS) have achieved the highest level of competition at Big Ten.

Recently, the Big Ten got split. It has placed the Ohio and Michigan into 2 different football divisions as the conference is subjected to increase within 2012. Although both of them will be meeting at the championship games every year, they will be missing the friendly home matches that they often played.

Players from the Big Ten will face an all-star football team from Mexico in Tanzania next year. It is deemed to be the first American Football match played on African soil.
