England to adopt ‘no mercy’ approach towards ’struggling’ Aussies in Ashes

SYDNEY - England has adopted a “no mercy” approach after reports of disharmony in the Australian team over Michael Clarke’s vice-captaincy and the fact that the hosts have lost six straight international matches.

Some senior members of the Australian side are reportedly unwilling to back Clarke as Ricky Ponting’s natural successor in Test cricket over the vice captain’s comment on Mike Hussey and Doug Bollinger.

Paul Collingwood said England would not “let the foot off the gas” as they prepare to defend the urn.

“It’s a different position … something we’re not used to coming to Australia. Let’s be honest, the more games they lose obviously the better it is for us,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him, as saying.

“We know that they’re a good side. We’re going to have to play very, very well to beat them in this Ashes in their backyard,” he said.

The Australian players were unhappy with Clarke’s comments over Hussey and Bollinger’s late arrivals to India because they were playing in the Champions League Twenty20. (ANI)
