LONDON - Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez has said that he would have loved to see Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney joining him at Eastlands.

Tevez’s comment comes ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash between the two clubs.

“I would have liked him to come here of course, but it was complicated for him to leave United,” the Sun quoted Tevez, as saying.

“Wayne is a player of great quality. He was a teammate and a friend of mine at United and he is one of those men that it is better to have on your team than against you. For me he is the best English striker of recent years,” he added.

Earlier, in a dramatic change of events, Rooney - who wanted to leave United - performed an incredible U-turn over his future by signing a new five-year contract.

Rooney, who was previously on 90,000 pounds per week, is now understood to be earning a basic salary in excess of 150,000 pounds per week.

The 25-year-old is now the highest-paid player at United, overtaking defender Rio Ferdinand. (ANI)
