CHRISTCHURCH - New Zealand fast bowler Hamish Bennett’s groin injury is likely to prevent him from playing cricket at the top level for about a month.

The Canterbury pace bowler returned to Christchurch yesterday after being invalided out of the tour, having broken down late on the first day of the first test at Ahmedabad.

Bennett, 23, was distraught at having to pull out on test debut after a promising start.

“In my second spell on my follow through one time something felt a bit funny. Then when I took the second new ball I started to really feel it, and by the last over I was just on one leg,” stuff.co.nz quoted him, as saying.ennett said he felt so useless not being able to bowl in the second innings when Chris Martin inspired a top-order Indian collapse.

New Zealand was hampered without Bennett and Jesse Ryder at the bowling crease.

Bennett visited a doctor yesterday and will have an MRI scan early next week. (ANI)
