GUANGZHOU - The Indian challenge in the sepak takraw event of the Asian Games here fizzled out Thursday with both men and women losing by similar 0-3 margins — while the men went down to Malaysia, the women bowed out to Thailand.

The India men were no match for Malaysia, the last edition’s silver medallists, and lost 22-42, 24-42, 15-42 in their last Group B match of sepak takraw, which is also known as kick volleyball.

The women were humbled by two-time gold medallists Thailand 13-42, 13-42, 15-42 in Group B.

Thailand, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea have qualified for the semi-finals in men’s event while Indonesia, China, Thailand and Vietnam have made the cut in the women’s section.
