Indian spikers on a roll, enter Asiad quarters

GUANGZHOU - The Indian men continued their impressive run as they beat Qatar 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the men’s volleyball competition at the Asian Games here Saturday.

India, however, lost to Japan 0-3 in a Group B women’s preliminary match.

World no. 38 India got the better of 54th-ranked Qatar 25-15, 25-13, 25-20 in the men’s Group F match at the Guangwai Gymnasium.

This was India’s second victory in as many matches of the second stage after the team upset World no. 14 Japan in a thrilling decider Friday. They play the last group match Sunday.

The women could only fight hard in the opening game against Japan and lost 23-25, 16-25, 17-25. They next play Kazakhstan Sunday.
