BRISBANE - Australian hat-trick hero Peter Siddle’s ‘Movember’ act could be here to stay longer following his sensational six-wicket haul against England in the ongoing first Ashes Test in Brisbane.

Movember, a blend word of ‘moustache’ and ‘November’, is an annual month-long event in Australia involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November. The event was conceived in 1999 by a group of men from Adelaide.

The Victorian quick, who is also Cricket Australia’s Movember ambassador, had told his mother that the moustache would remain if it brought him good luck.

“He said the other night if he was doing any good in this Test he’d be leaving it on for the whole series, so look out now, I think it stays,” the Age quoted Allison Siddle, as saying.

She also said that there was pandemonium in the Siddle family home when the right-arm fast bowler ran through England’s batting order.

“[We were] jumping up and down and screaming and yelling and all that goes with it. I was sitting on my corner in the couch, and he got that [first] one, I was pretty happy, yelling and cheering. Then when he got the next one it got a bit louder, and of course when he got the hat-trick, well, there were a few tears,” Allison said.

“To come back from injury, it’s good to see him bowl so well,” she added.

Playing his 18th Test and first since breaking down with a back injury in January, the Victorian fast bowler who turned 26 yesterday finished the innings with amazing comeback figures of 6-54, which included a hat-trick.

Siddle is the 11th Australia bowler to take a hat-trick in Test matches and the first since Glenn McGrath’s hat-trick against the West Indies in Perth in December 2000, the Australian reports.

It was also the fifth Ashes hat-trick by an Australian and the first since Shane Warne’s achievement at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1994-95. (ANI)
