SYDNEY - Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson believes that his efforts to address some technical deficiencies in his bowling action will help him reclaim his spot for the Perth Test.

Johnson was dropped from Australia’s 12-man squad for the second Test match in Adelaide due to his poor form.

The left-arm fast bowler had a horror time during the drawn first Test in Brisbane, where he finished with match figures of 0-170, dropped a catch and made a 19-ball duck.

“I think getting away from all the hype, getting out in the nets and working on it like that is probably the best option for me instead of trying to work it out in a game, where I guess in the last Test I was trying to do exactly that,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Johnson, as saying.

“I was trying to work on it out there which is very hard to do, so I think in the end for me to work things out is to go out there into the net sessions, get back in the gym, do all those sorts of things, get my head straight, work really hard and get back in this team and make a big effort when I do get that chance,” he added.

The low-slinging action that has caused Johnson to spray the ball far and wide, particularly in his past five Tests, has been a concern for some time.

He said that he would continue to work with Australia’s fast bowling coach Troy Cooley.

“We spoke not long ago about just making sure I get my bowling where I need to get it, because mentally I feel fine,” Johnson said.

“I think throughout that Test match I handled it pretty well, but I probably just need to keep working on my bowling, make sure I’m feeling strong with my bowling and getting everything together I guess, so that’s part of what we’re doing,” he added. (ANI)
