PERTH - England batsman Ian Bell has said that the selection of Western Australia left-arm spinner Michael Beer in Australia’s 12-man squad for the third Ashes Test to be played in Perth next week is a ‘bit surprising’.

Bell said that Beer certainly could not be ready for Test cricket after playing just five first-class matches for Western Australia.

“One hundred per cent no. It’s obviously a little bit surprising. It’s not really anything for us to worry about,” the Age quoted Bell, as saying.

“That’s what Australia have got to think about and their changes are up to them,” he added.

The 26-year-old is the 10th spin bowler and the most unusual to be selected since the retirement of leg-spin legend Shane Warne nearly four years ago. (ANI)
