NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com) — Rowan University defensive end Matt Hoffman met Warren Sallach, 59, a road maintenance worker from Brenham, Tex., who received Hoffman’s blood stem cells last year to help treat non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

In November 2009, 21 year old Hoffman missed the final game of his junior season to donate blood stem cells to an unknown recipient. The National Marrow Donor Program requires donors and patients to remain anonymous to one another for at least one year after transplants.

Last week, Sallach and Hoffman spoke for the first time, and Hoffman invited Sallach, his wife, Becky, and the couple’s 9-year-old son, Travis, to the Gagliardi ceremony. Sallach said his most recent tests revealed no signs of lymphoma, and he expects a full recovery.
