MELBOURNE - Former Australian cricket captain Allan Border believes that Michael Clarke is ready to captain Australia, but says that he will have to wait till Ricky Ponting decides to give up that role.

Clarke won’t get his chance in the Boxing Day Ashes Test, Fox Sports cricket commentator Border said.

Border further said that Clarke is the right man to lead Australia in Ponting’s absence, but he says the injured skipper will take his place in front of an expected sell-out crowd on Boxing Day.

“I’d be very surprised if Ricky doesn’t play,” former Australia captain Border told foxsports.com.au.

“He’s got a little crack on his little pinky. He’s the toughest bloke going around, and he’s going to play.

“Over the past 130 years, people have played with little niggles all the time. A little crack in your knuckle in your hand is nothing. You ask Ian Healy about his hands and some of the stuff he put up with.” (ANI)
