MELBOURNE - England fast bowler James Anderson is set to overcome injury doubts and play in the Boxing Day Test of the Ashes series in Melbourne.

Bowling for the first time since he suffered a sore side in the third Test in Perth, Anderson appeared to show little discomfort in a net session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, Fox Sports reports.

Team-mate Jonathan Trott later confirmed that the team management expected Anderson to take part in the crucial fourth Test.

When asked how Anderson’s fitness was, Trott said: “Very, very good - I don’t know why he wouldn’t play.”

“As far as I know he’s looking really good,” he added.

The five-match series is currently tied at 1-1. (ANI)
