Ashes mess: Cricket Australia facing pivotal board meeting

SYDNEY - Cricket Australia power brokers will decide on the mechanics of a far-reaching review into the national team’s abject failure in the recent Ashes series when they meet next Tuesday.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, an independent chairperson is being sought, perhaps from a corporate background, to assess the wider problems in the game’s Australian structure that led to the crushing 3-1 home series defeat against England.

Former captain Steve Waugh has been mooted as a possible overseer or contributor.

“What we’re keen on is someone external with expertise that would allow them to manage a review, and we’re looking at a range of people across corporate Australia,” the SMH quoted a CA spokesman, as saying.

He added: “We’re looking for someone with some grunt, who can give the review the credibility it needs, and who can make recommendations that are respected.”

How a “ruthless” review of Australian cricket sits alongside the headlong pursuit of T20 dollars remains to be seen, but after Tuesday the parameters for both will be set. (ANI)
