MELBOURNE - Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait has recovered from his strained buttock muscle and is almost certain to play in Wednesday’s sixth one-day match against England at the SCG.

Tait’s South Australian counterpart Callum Ferguson is also in the line for a recall after being added to the squad for the final two one-dayers as cover for Shaun Marsh.

While Marsh has remained with the team and underwent the scans on Tuesday morning, the selectors have deemed it prudent to call up Ferguson, FOX Sports reports.
Callum has an excellent record in one-day internationals for Australia and is in good form this season. We are sure Callum will seize the opportunity that comes following the unfortunate hamstring injury suffered by Shaun Marsh,” said chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch.

Tait has been bowling three-over spells in the nets as he recovers from a strained muscle, which he sustained during the second game in Hobart.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting is also on the comeback trail and is expected to bat within the next 24 hours for the first time since the Boxing Day Test.

Batsman Cameron White said it had been great to have Ponting around the dressing rooms as a source of advice and experience even though he has not been playing.

“It’s great to have a person like Ricky around for anything. He’s obviously doing all he can to get his fitness right in time for the World Cup,” White said.(ANI)
