LONDON - British tennis star Andy Murray has been backed by Australian legend Rod Laver to win numerous Grand Slams during his career.

Laver, the only player to have won all four Slams in the same year twice, insists that Murray should not be worried after losing three major finals.

“Winning the first one is the toughest. But he mustn’t let the British public take hold of him. He’s no failure,” the Sun quoted Laver, as saying.

“Andy’s one tick from winning. Reaching three finals is a great effort,” he added.

Murray, who lost the Australian Open final on January 30, was earlier defeated in last year’s Australian Open final and the US Open final in 2008.

The 23-year-old is aiming to become the first to win a Grand Slam champion for the United Kingdom in 75 years. (ANI)
