LONDON - Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has said that he is shocked after fans voted him as England’s 2010 Player of the Year.

The 30-year-old is regularly booed in the Premier League, and was once jeered by England supporters against Kazakhstan in 2008.

However, he emerged a surprise winner of the eighth online poll on the Football Association’s official website.

“It feels amazing. It came as a big surprise to me. It’s been hard at times, but now I’ve got the fans’ appreciation,” the Sun quoted Cole, as saying.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney had won the award in 2008 and 2009. (ANI)
