LONDON - England star Ashley Cole is set to become the Three Lions’ most-capped full-back by overtaking Kenny Sansom’s record of 86 appearances.

Cole, who made his debut against Albania in 2001, is expected to make his 87th appearance tonight, in the friendly against Denmark.

“For me it’s going to be a normal game but, of course, in the back of my mind I’ll think ‘yeah, I broke the record’. But I don’t want to stop here, I want to get more caps,” the Sun quoted Cole, as saying.

“I’ve missed a lot of games through injury so maybe I would have hit around 90 by now. To play for your country is a dream as a kid and I’ve done it 86 times,” he added.

The 30-year-old also said that he has no intention of simply stepping aside and allowing other youngsters to take his spot.

“I just want to keep playing as many games as I can until the manager doesn’t think I’m good enough to play or it’s time for a younger one to come in and play. I’m never going to give up or retire,” Cole said.

Peter Shilton is England’s most capped player with 125 appearances under his belt. (ANI)
