PARIS - Former World Number one Roger Federer has said that British tennis star Andy Murray is not his pick to reach the final of the French Open.

The world No 2 is in the other side of the draw to third seed Murray, who meets Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez in the quarter-finals in Paris today.

Federer, who has never won the title here, fought back from two sets down to overcome unseeded German Tommy Haas in five sets.

When Federer was asked if he felt Murray was now the biggest threat to him winning the title, The Sun quoted him as saying: Not really. Sure, he has a good chance to make the finals. But at the same time, Davydenko has a chance as well.”

“Just because you beat one particular player doesn’t mean you are now going to beat everyone else easily,” he added.

Federer is 6-5 favourite to win the title here but on current form, he will not make the final.

Interestingly, Federer does not like being asked about Murray.

While he beat the Brit in last year’s US Open final, Murray has won six of their eight matches - including the last four. (ANI)
