Rossi wins German GP for 101st MotoGP victory

SACHSENRING, Germany — Valentino Rossi has held off Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo in a wheel-to-wheel last lap to win the German Grand Prix for his 101st MotoGP victory.

Rossi crossed the line 0.099 seconds ahead of Lorenzo on Sunday, after passing the Spaniard with less than two laps remaining.

Rossi started the race from the pole, but lost the lead for 10 laps to Casey Stoner of Australia.

The world champion from Italy regained the lead with fewer than 14 of 30 laps left on the 2.3-mile Sachsenring circuit, only to see Lorenzo flash by with under five laps remaining.

Rossi made his move from the inside of a curve and held on to win his fifth German GP.
