Seahawks’ Tatupu out of practice again

RENTON, Wash. — Lofa Tatupu did not participate in practice for the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday morning.

It was the second time in three days Tatupu missed practice.

Tatupu sat out the team’s only practice on Sunday morning and the team said the three-time Pro Bowler needed rest. He participated in warmups and early individual drills during practice on Monday afternoon before sitting out all team activities.

Tatupu did not participate in any warmups or drills Tuesday.

Head coach Jim Mora said there’s nothing to be concerned about.

“The guy has had a really good camp. He’s extremely focused. He’s very detailed in everything that he’s doing. He’s working remarkably hard and I think it just caught up to him and he just needed a little rest, so we’re going to give it to him,” Mora said.

Mora said he expects Tatupu to play in the team’s preseason opener against the San Diego Chargers on Saturday, but left open the possibility of a change.

“If something comes up then we would adjust, but right now I would say yes,” he would play, Mora said.

Tatupu joins Marcus Trufant (back), Chris Spencer (ankle) and Walter Jones (back) as prominent Seahawks starters missing practice.

Also missing practice were Deion Branch (knee), Grey Ruegamer (elbow), Ray Willis (knee), Josh Wilson (groin), Deon Grant (groin), Will Herring (groin), Cory Redding (soreness) and D.D. Lewis (knee).

T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Courtney Taylor each returned to practice after sitting out Monday evening’s session.
