Grant wins lightweight single sculls at worlds

POZNAN, Poland — Defending champion Duncan Grant of New Zealand won his third consecutive world title in the lightweight single sculls at the world rowing championships Sunday.

Grant crossed the line in 6 minutes, 50.78 seconds, nearly 2 seconds ahead of Vasileios Polymeros of Greece and Mads Rasmussen of Denmark.

In the coxed pair, Troy Kepper, Henrik Rummer and Marcus McElhenney of the United States took gold, while in the lightweight pairs Fabien Tilliet and Jean-Christophe Bette of France topped the podium.

The United States won the women’s eight, Germany won the lightweight quadruple sculls and Ukraine took gold in the quadruple sculls.

Pamela Weisshaupt of Switzerland defended her lightweight single sculls world title, winning in 7:36.23. Laura Milani of Italy took silver, and Juliane Rasmussen of Denmark won bronze.
