MUMBAI - Former Indian Test player Vinod Kambli filed his nomination from Vikhroli for the October 13 Maharashtra Assembly elections on THursday.

Kambli, 37, travelled on a local train along with his supporters to file his papers as a candidate for the Lok Bharti, a constituent of the Ramdas Athavale-led Republican Left Democratic front (RLDF).

“I started my innings as a cricketer travelling by train. So, I wanted to begin my new innings (in politics) that way (travelling by train),” Kambli told reporters.

Asked if childhood friend and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar would campaign for him, Kambli replied in the negative.

“Sachin is busy with cricket but his (good) wishes are always with me,” Kambli said.

The once swashbuckling left hand batsman has scored 1084 runs in 17 tests and 2477 runs in 104 ODIs. (ANI)
