SAO PAULO - After winning the Formula One championship here on Sunday, British racer Jenson Button said that his “voice had gone” and described his fifth place finish as both “brilliant and amazing”.

Brawn’s British ace roared up from 14th with some incredible early overtaking to wreck the title hopes of teammate Rubens Barrichello (eighth after a late puncture) and Red Bull’s Sebastien Vettel (fourth).

Mark Webber’s Sao Paulo victory was overshadowed by Button’s glory-clinching drive as six drivers retired in a thrilling second-last race of the season.

And Button’s success also sealed the constructor’s title for Brawn in their debut year - mainly based on the Brit’s six wins in the first seven grands prix.

As Button finished the last of the 71 laps, he half-yelled, half-sung: “We are the champions, my friends!… Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo! We are world champions! World champions! Woo!”

“It’s really amazing… my voice has gone! After the last few races, this one makes up for it. It was awesome. I’m world champion, baby. That race deserves it. Twenty-one years ago, I jumped into a kart and I loved winning - but I never expected to be world champion,” The Sun quoted Button, as saying.

Button is now an uncatchable 15 points clear of Vettel and 17 ahead of Barrichello, with just the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to come. (ANI)
