FIFA to give award for ‘most beautiful goal’

FELCSUT, Hungary — Soccer will be giving a new award to the player who scores the “most beautiful goal of the year.”

The award will be named in honor of Hungarian soccer star Ferenc Puskas. FIFA president Sepp Blatter says the annual award will be presented Dec. 21 in Switzerland during the world player of the year gala.

Blatter made the announcement Tuesday at the Ferenc Puskas Football Academy in Felcsut, about 25 miles from Budapest.

Puskas led Hungary to the 1954 World Cup final and also played for Real Madrid. He died in 2006.
