Alabama State defeats West Alabama 62-59

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Menji Mundadi scored 19 points and Alabama State defeated West Alabama 62-59 on Monday night.

Mundadi, the Hornets’ leading scorer at 14.3 points per game, was 7 of 14 from the field and was 5 of 12 from 3-point range against the Tigers.

The Hornets (3-8) trailed 21-16 with 6:21 left in the first half and went on a 12-5 run for their first lead since an early 7-5 advantage. Mundadi capped the run on a 3-pointer with 2:09 left in the first half for a 28-26 lead.

The Hornets led 31-28 at halftime and scored the first four points of the second half for a 35-28 lead on Tramayne Moorer’s layup with 17:55 left.

Tramaine Butler and Moorer scored 15 points each for Alabama State.

West Alabama (8-5), which averages 78 points per game, was led by Brandon Hampton with 15 points and Jason Swanson with 10.

The Division II Tigers had a three-game win streak snapped.
