Barnies leads Maine to win over Stony Brook 67-61

ORONO, Maine — Troy Barnies scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half as Maine erased a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Stony Brook 67-61 on Saturday.

Sean McNally’s 3-pointer with 21 seconds left gave the Black Bears (10-6, 2-1 Northeast conference) a 64-61 lead after the Seawolves (11-7, 3-2), had pulled within a point.

Maine shot 60.7 percent (17-for-28) in the second half to Stony Brook’s 26.9 percent (7-for-26).

After trailing 48-34 with 18:06 remaining, Maine used a 13-0 run to pull within a point and took its first lead, 54-52, on Barnies’ jumper with 6:45 left.

A dunk by Stony Brook’s Tommy Brenton tied it, but Maine answered quickly with a layup by Junior Bernal for a 56-54 lead.

Dallis Joyner scored 17 points and Muhammad El-Amin 15 for Stony Brook, and Brenton had 12 rebounds.

Barnies and McNally had nine rebounds each for Maine.
