Wallisch wins freeski at Dew Tour

OGDEN, Utah — Tom Wallisch won the freeski slopestyle finals Sunday at the Dew Tour event at Snowbasin Resort, putting him in position to win the overall title heading to the final meet of the season.

The 22-year-old Salt Lake City native put together a second run that included a cork 900 for a first-place score of 94.75. Andreas Hatveit of Norway was second and is tied for the overall lead, while Bobby Brown of Breckenridge, Colo., finished third.

“It’s great to compete in Utah at a local mountain and to ski well in front of all my friends,” Wallisch said. “To be in the running for the Dew Cup is just insane.”

Spencer O’Brien of Canada won the women’s snowboard slopestyle finals, while Chas Guldemond of Reno-Tahoe, Nev., won his first Dew Tour final in men’s snowboard slopestyle.

“I’m super stoked,” said the 21-year-old O’Brien, whose winning run included a frontside boardside and a backside 540 for a score of 91.00. “It was a big crowd and they were really supportive, so that makes it more fun.”

Jenny Jones of Britain was second with an 86.75, and 23-year-old Megan Ginter of Stevens Pass, Wash., finished third with an 80.00. Jamie Anderson was fourth, and is tied with O’Brien for the overall lead heading to the Toyota Championship in West Dover, Vt.

The 22-year-old Guldemond won the men’s snowboard slopestyle with a run that included a backside 1260, earning a score of 95.25. Tyler Flanagan of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., was second and Sage Kotsenburg of Park City, Utah, finished third.
