Puerto Rico beats Mexico 8-2

MARGARITA ISLAND, Venezuela — Puerto Rico has defeated Mexico 8-2, forcing the Dominican Republic to win its final game against Venezuela to clinch the Caribbean Series.

Puerto Rico’s Indios de Mayagues improved to 4-2. Los Leones del Escogido, the Dominican club, was 4-1 heading into its final game later Sunday.

Indios de Mayagues and Los Leones del Escogido would face off in a playoff game on Monday if the Dominican club loses its last game.

Mariano Santiago worked five innings to get the win for Puerto Rico.

Edwards Guzman, Miguel Abreu and Jesus Feliciano each drove in a run in the second inning to help Indios de Mayagues build a 3-0 lead.

Mexico’s Los Naranjeros de Hermosillo finished 2-4 in the series.
