Berdych beats Soderling in Key Biscayne semis

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Tomas Berdych (Toe’-mas Ber’-ditch) is still riding the momentum from his upset of Roger Federer.

Berdych advanced Friday to the final of the Sony Ericsson Open by beating Robin Soderling (Soh’-der-ling) 6-2, 6-2. Berdych broke serve four times and faced only one break point.

The 6-foot-5 Berdych upset the top-ranked Federer in the fourth round. His opponent Sunday will be Andy Roddick, who beat Rafael Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first semifinal.

Berdych’s only other Masters 1000 final was in 2005, when he won the Paris title. Ranked 20th, he can become the first Key Biscayne men’s champion not ranked in the top 10 since Jim Courier in 1991.
