Browns take Texas QB McCoy

BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns have selected Texas quarterback Colt McCoy in the third round of the NFL draft.

After passing on McCoy with two earlier picks, the Browns grabbed the Longhorns’ four-year starter with the No. 85 overall selection.

The Browns have spent the offseason reshaping the quarterback position, which has been an almost constant headache for a decade. They traded Brady Quinn, released Derek Anderson and signed free agent Jake Delhomme. Now, they’ve added McCoy as a possible long-term solution.

McCoy figured to be drafted much earlier but was taken after fellow college stars Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow and Jimmy Clausen. He went 45-8 as a starter and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy as a junior and senior.
