Pakistan lose a last-ball thriller to New Zealand

BRIDGETOWN - Defending champions Pakistan lost a last-ball thriller by one run to New Zealand in the Super Eights match of the World Twenty20 here Saturday.

Chasing New Zealand’s 133 for seven, Pakistan fumbled on the last ball to end at 132 for seven. Salman Butt remained unbeaten on 67.

Ian Butler, who bowled a brilliant last over, was the pick of New Zealand bowlers with 3-19.

Skipper Daniel Vettori top scored with 38 runs while Brendon McCullum made 33 after New Zealand were sent in to bat first.

For Pakistan, Mohammad Sami (2-25), Abdur Rehman (2-19) and Shahid Afridi (2-29) bowled well to restrict New Zealand to a modest total.
